Solar farm protest at the highest point

Thank you so much to everyone that took part in the solar farm protest on Saturday.

On Saturday 26 February 2023, More than 100 people gathered at the highest point with their umbrellas to make clear that they object to the desecration of this beauty spot. We don’t object to renewable power generation, but this is the wrong project in the wrong place.

Photos and drone footage were taken of the event, and lots of people signed up to the Cumbrae Community Council newsletter so they can stay informed.

There was an article about the protest in the Herald, in Glasgow World and in the Largs and Millport Weekly News, and there was a radio interview on Global.

Next steps

We have been going through the solar farm planning application and will produce a leaflet summarising the key points and telling you how to submit comments to North Ayrshire Council. It is really important that as many people comment as possible so the planning committee understands the strength of feeling on the island. Any comments you have made about previous applications do not count – you have to comment again on this new application.

The leaflets will be printed and posted to every household. Please fill out one per person. If you would like to volunteer to help distribute the leaflets, please email us at cumbraeccouncil@gmail.com.

If you want to submit a comment now, you can do so on North Ayrshire Council’s planning website.

We have written some guidance about the sorts of things that make a good comment that you can see here.

Thank you again everyone for all your support.
