When the application for the solar farm at the highest point was submitted, Cumbrae Community Council responded in a number of ways:
We shared information about the application with the community.
We reviewed the contents of the application and created a digest of issues.
We created a leaflet which we had printed. We did this to ensure everyone, including those with less digital connectivity had a democratic voice on this important issue.
Volunteers from the Millport Support Group circulated the leaflet.
We received over 200 responses which we sent to North Ayrshire Council.
63 comments were posted direct on the North Ayrshire Council planning portal.
Cumbrae Community Council was then informed that the planning application had been withdrawn by the applicant.
Following discussion with the planners we understand that the applicant plans to consult on and change their proposal before making a resubmission.
Next steps for Cumbrae Community Council
We will ask the planners to review their website access – the portal was not working for significant periods during the consultation which caused issues for islanders. The planners extended the deadline for comments, but some islanders still had problems.
We will review and respond to any updated application when it arrives and will keep the community informed and involved.
